Practical Lock Picking: A Physical Penetration Tester's Training Guide
Very pleased to own both, and they will remain in my bookcase for a long time. Not cheap, but worth the money. Wed Apr 15, pm by jfw Re: Deviant Ollam books. I am also the proud owner of Deviant's books. I agree that the information contained in the books is very well articulated, for beginners and advanced lockies alike. Great addition to anyones collection. Dev's books sit proudly on my lockpicking bookshelf. Have to agree the books explain things in terms just about anybody can understand.
So if you have a choice, get the second edition.
His website does have a reasonable lock pick set actually, several , practice locks, cut away locks, impressioning tools, and an impressive array of gadgets to make life interesting. Just when you think you've learned it all, that is when you find you haven't learned anything yet. Yep, great stuff in these books and his website and blog.
Clever guy who sounds like he loves his work. Hard not to be jealous really!!! Overall the book does much to dispel the myth that lock-picking is an arcane, difficult art and puts the reader in a position to carry out more effective physical security reviews In summary this is an excellent practical introduction to the subject and the publishers are to be congratulated for producing another good niche penetration testing book.

Third, the writing is exceptionally clear and methodical, with extreme attention to detail and a master's approach to educating the reader. Everything from straightforward lockpicking to quick-entry techniques like shimming, bumping, and bypassing is explained and show. Whether you're being hired to penetrate security or simply trying to harden your own defenses, this book is essential. What makes this book easy to understand are the clear cut diagrams showing the internal design of locks.
You will hardly find a page in this book without those design pictures and all of these are precise engineering-diagram types - not just some random lock pictures. It is very clear that author has taken great efforts to get those pictures right and this is what gives this book 5 star rank! It's a great reference and guide book for getting started with lock picking, learning how locks work, and really motivates you to want to get your hands dirty trying out the techniques covered in the book.
